Mother Barbara Mc Coo Lewis Lewis

Barbara Mc Coo Lewis was born September 18, 1943 in Los Angeles, California.  She received Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in the Holy Spirit at the age of nine. She is a third generation member of the Church of God in Christ and a lifetime member of Southern California One Jurisdiction.

She was married to Bishop James A. Lewis from June, 1962 until his passing in September, 2019. They are the proud parents of Elder James A. Lewis Jr. and Administrative Assistant Jeffrey M. Lewis (wife Floetta). The joys of her life are her two adult grandchildren Shannon D. and Jeffrey M. Lewis, Jr.

As Co-Founder of the New Antioch Church of God in Christ in 1970 Mother Lewis served in multiple roles of support to the ministry of her husband such as: Adult women’s Sunday school teacher; organizing Superintendent and Teacher of the Youth Sunday school; organizer of the Sunshine Band, Purity Class, Young Women’s Christian Council, Women Aware organization (consisting of all women of the congregation). She served as President of the Prayer and Bible Band, church musician, organizer and President of the Inspirational Choir. She was the organizing president of the Outreach Department which consisted of door to door ministry, hospital visitation, juvenile hall ministry, food giveaway in the park, drug rehabilitation ministry. Prior to the retirement of her husband Mother Lewis was the Church Administrator. She is currently the Church Mother.

Mother Lewis holds an Associate of Arts degree in Journalism from West Los Angeles Community College; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from California State University at Los Angeles; she matriculated at Fuller Theological Seminary and completed graduate studies with a Master of Arts degree in Theology at Southern California School of Ministry. The Litterum Doctorate degree was conferred upon her by the Southern California School of Ministry.

She has served in multiple roles on the District, Jurisdictional and National levels of the Church of God in Christ and is currently the General Supervisor of the International Department of Women- Church of God in Christ.

The theme of her life is: I Can Do All Things Through Christ Which Strengthens Me.
